Almost One Year Later, Still Pushing

Hello to anyone reading this blog post today, I am sorry for disappearing for almost one year. I did not contract COVID-19, fortunately, but I became very ill last Fall and needed to take a break from writing and editing for longer than I hoped. I got better in December, but the amount of work that I had piled up due to taking such a long absence left me not updating this website since. I am happy to announce that I am almost finished with my manuscript! My goal is to be querying before August.

The pandemic affected us all differently over the past year and a half. Some started new projects and hobbies, utilized the extra time at home to develop creatively, or possibly tried and failed at bread making; however, many of us struggled with isolation, anxiety, and loss of loved ones. Although COVID-19 is not necessarily the reason I took a medical hiatus, the lack of access to non-emergency medical care due to an increase in precautions for corona virus delayed my treatments for much longer than it would have taken a year prior.

In positive news, over the past year I have begun volunteering with Minority Veterans of America and have been a member of a Grassroots Coalition of Women Veterans to address sexual assault and harassment in the military, as well as, inequalities in treatment and benefits across the Veteran community through policy advocacy and researching for congressional testimony. The experiences I have gained through these roles has provided me insight into how I should address certain topics in my memoir and confidence to speak my truth.

Stay tuned for regularly scheduled posts leading to my manuscript completion!
